One of A Kind Savings Promotion from Bank of America

Bank of America offers a truly one of a kind savings, checking and debit card promotion. In order to avail of this, the depositor must have a savings account, checking account, and a check debit card. So here’s how it works, the program is called “Keep the Change”, and rightly so. Because for every purchase made with the debit card, Bank of America rounds the purchase off to the nearest dollar and transfers the rest automatically from your checking account to your savings account. In a way, it’s as if you’ve got automatic savings.

For example, let’s say you bough a pair of shoes at $25.01. The charge that goes to your debit card will automatically be $26, and the 99 cents that wasn’t part of the original price will be directed to your savings account. Another big plus aside from automatic savings is that during the first three months, Bank of America will match whatever amount you “saved”. So by the end of the year, Bank of America will give you another 99 cents, up to a maximum of $250.

Some people have found some creative ways to build up their “savings”, such as filling up their gas tanks to only $2.01 at a time, buying stamps at an automated machine, or buying small purchases in a grocery one at a time instead of by bulk. Whatever your strategy may be, it’s time to get creative just to get to that $250.

Some limitations are that ATM purchases are not considered to be a part of the promotion. Only five checking accounts per depositor is allowed, or five checking accounts per household, whichever is lower. Eligible savings account includes the Regular Savings Account with a minimum opening balance of $25. And also, the Keep the Change promotion may be modified or canceled at any time, without prior notice. Some fees may reduce earnings.

The Totally Free checking account also allows you to enjoy online and telephone banking, automatic fund transfers, combined statements, images of paid checks and a MasterCard debit card. If all this sounds too good to be true, there just has to be some fine print. And indeed there is.

If the account has fewer than five transactions every month for three months, then the banks get the liberty to convert the account into a Flat Free Checking account. This will allow the banks to charge you with a monthly fee. These transactions can be made in bank or via electronic or online transactions. People who are used to online banking may be able to meet these requirements much easier.

If you find yourself comfortable with the 5 monthly transactions, then this checking account may be good deal for you. Every checking account opening with Banco Popular is also rewarded with $125 plus a free gift. To avail of these, this is what is required:

* Bring in your old debit card and unused checks from another institution and they will pay you $25
* Deposit $100 or more to the ACH account within 60 days of opening to receive the $50 bonus
* Another $50 cash payment will be received once the first bill is paid with the Bill Service within 60 days of account opening

It’s possible to get the Totally Free Checking and enjoy the benefits, plus you can also get an extra $125. But to do that, there is some form of effort required. So basically, it’s like Banco Popular is giving you a checking account in exchange for your efforts.

There is of course some fine print. Per qualifying account, the limit is one gift per individual. Direct deposit transactions are limited to payroll, Social Security, government benefits and pension.

This will only cover individuals and businesses in the following areas: Eastern OH, Oregon, Seattle Cascades, Capital Region NY, Michigan, Maine, Cleveland, South Puget Sound, Rochester, Northwest OH and Central NY.
